Brendan Zubricki, Town Administrator, Essex
I have always wanted to serve in government in some capacity but my path to my current profession is not a traditional one. After graduate school, I worked as a scientist for the National Park Service. I moved into local government when I worked on technical aspects of Gloucester’s wastewater consent decree. Soon after, the neighboring town of Essex also entered into a consent decree for coastal pollution and I moved into a technical position there. In 2000, subsequent to the town meeting determining that a Town Administrator should be hired, the largest issue facing the Town was a DEP-mandated sewer construction project. The selectmen recognized that my background would allow me to oversee that project and provided me with a tremendous opportunity for which I am very grateful. I have been able to steadily grow into the profession, assisted greatly by the exchange and professional development opportunities provided by the MMMA and other organizations.
