Having fulfilled a goal of working for the Federal government in the Presidential Management Fellows program, I left Washington after two years to begin my local government career as an assistant in a suburb of 30,000 in Connecticut.  My experience with the Department of Justice was in stark contrast to an internship I completed during graduate school with a city of 80,000 in terms of my ability to make a difference.  It confirmed for me that local government afforded the best opportunity for my work to have a direct impact on the lives of the citizens I serve.
