Thirty town managers, administrators and assistants from across the state attended a “boot camp” presented by the Massachusetts Municipal Management Association on Oct. 2.
The first-ever training for new municipal managers served as an introduction to the basics for those entering the profession, including elected officials and managers transitioning from the private sector.
The day-long meeting in Charlton included presentations on finance and budgeting, personnel and collective bargaining, procurement and management/board relations.
The meeting also allowed attendees to exchange ideas with their peers facing the same issues.
Presenters were primarily managers themselves, most with more than 20 years of experience in towns all over the state.
